Kyung Hee Global Collaborative 2024 Summer Program opened on July 1, offering an unparalleled opportunity for global intellectual exploration. International scholars and top officials from global organizations will deliver lectures, inviting students from around the world to engage, learn, and connect

The Global Collaborative (GC) is the University’s premier international cooperation program. This year, 131 participants from 12 countries have gathered on the campus. GC 2024 officially began with an opening ceremony on July 1. The theme for this year is “Global Peace and Sustainable Development: The Future at a Crossroad,” offering 12 courses across three tracks: (1) Peace & Global Governance, (2) Global CSR and Sustainable Development, and (3) Humanity & Civilization.

Combining theory and practice to cultivate global leaders
The program aims to prepare students to be global citizens and leaders of a sustainable future. To this end, the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications. The courses provide insights into addressing contemporary societal issues and fostering networking opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. This year, while maintaining its focus on Peace & Global Governance and Humanity & Civilization, GC has introduced new subjects such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in light of their growing importance.

The Peace & Global Governance track includes courses such as (1) Aesthetic Leadership for a Networked World, (2) Future Politics in a Transformative World, and (3) Recomposing Future and Transformative Leadership. These courses explore the types and roles of leadership and political landscapes required in an era of transformation. Leading these discussions are esteemed scholars such as Femida Handy and Ram A. Cnaan from the University of Pennsylvania; G. John Ikenberry from Princeton University; and Professors Su-Jin Kim, Don Moon, Chung-Sik Shin, and Min-Young Cheong from Kyung Hee University.

Addressing social responsibility with the global CSR and sustainable development track
The newly introduced Global CSR and Sustainable Development track offers such courses as (1) Sustainable Development Goals: Bridging Gaps and Empowering Equality; (2) ESG and UN Global Compact; (3) The UN: Global Challenges and the Role of Civil Society; and (4) Future or Collapse: Climate Change and Sustainable Future. These courses are taught by experts from international organizations and distinguished scholars, including Irina Bokova, Miwon Scholar of Peace Studies at Kyung Hee University and former UNESCO Director-General; Oliver F. Williams from the University of Notre Dame; former Ambassador for Climate Change Chan-Woo Kim; and Professors Hwan-Hee Park and Yong-Seung Park from Kyung Hee. The courses start by addressing climate change and other global challenges, then move on to international efforts and policies related to human and social responsibility, such as sustainable development goals (SDGs) and ESG.

The Humanity & Civilization track offers insights into recent academic trends and Korean culture. The curriculum includes AI & Humanities courses such as (1) Technology, Ecology and Culture; (2) Global Appeal and Uniqueness of Korean Pop Culture; and (3) Understanding Diversity in Contemporary Korea as well as Korean Language levels Ⅰ & Ⅱ.

The lectures will run through July 22. Then students will take part in Korean Culture Week from July 23 to 26, immersing themselves in the local culture with a visit to Lotte World, a pottery making experience, an overnight stay at Buddhist temples, and a field trip to Suwon.
